Its not present day, but based in a Persian city after the invasion of Ghengis Khan and the Mongols. Its still airing so I cant be sure of the ending but based on the style and what people who read the manga have said its probably depressing. Still, very interesting premise, and more prude friendly given the setting.

My plot summary is very slanted, it's much closer to "running with wolves" or the like that fetishize native magics people, but it is true that the white guy is just considered the best ever, and that they throw their women at him in hopes he gets tied down to their tribe. I'm just wording it (un)charitably as the antis would definitely word its plotline like that to disparage it, if they weren't preoccupied with so many other anime this season.
