I think most people are aware that Eisenhower in his farewell address gave a warning about the Military Industrial Complex. If you go to the National Archives page they even highlight it as the thesis of his remark. But he spoke of two dangers to the country, the other danger was the scientific-technological elite.
I'm a guy who isn't a historian but I do have an above average love of history and have studied a bit of it. I had heard about Eisenhower's warning about the MIC but never once heard about his other warning. How many of you here had heard about Eisenhower mentioning the Military Industrial Complex, but had never heard about his warning of the Scientific Technological Elite?
Eisenhower usually comes up when they're painting the 50's as some kind of dark age. The way they tell it we were all living in darkness until the feminists descended from the heavens and showed us the proper way to live our lives. Nothing enrages them more than the thought of an average man having a fair shot in life. They're retconning the 90's to a lesser extent for the same reason.
