Well, they are certainly not pushing it, or trash talk about J**s publicly, but if check closely Orthodox book stores in monasteries (at least in my neck of the woods) you will find some very interesting titles exhibited. Also, if you talk to a priest and conversation comes to the certain topic they will openly say what they think.

Edit: The uper part is about the priesthood, but you are mostly right about avarage believers, though I wuld like to think that scales are changing lately.
