As strange as it is, this is a good thing. Their hatred needs to be shoved into white people's faces until it is undeniable. People talk about how whites in South Africa haven't totally woken up to race even now, but they've been soaked in the same kumbaya culture for decades, complete with all kinds of platitudes about how "Kill the Boer" is a harmless traditional song. At no point have blacks come out and said, "we just want to kill you." The reaction to this trial is a new low for them.
