People are being replaced, but it's not happening in the way people think.
Our mini dev team had 3, one left, we had 2 and workloads increased. AI was used to make up the lost productivity.
Originally we planned to have a team of 5. Now we're working with a team of 3, as if we had 5.
For right now, AI isn't being used to cut costs by firing people, it's being used to increase productivity and bandwidth without adding personnel.
The senior devs of the future are going to be those who can architect the code base and architect AI context files so AI can do the work.
When you're creating whatever system you're creating, you can organize separate sections into it's own folder directory. In each directory you can place an AI context file that explains how this section works and project requirements.
Once set up correctly. You can then prompt AI to make large scale changes accurately and quickly. -- You're senior Dev is gonna be who can correctly set up the system. Your entry devs will be those prompting AI and reviewing it's changes, or manually handle some pieces yourself if building a new section.
I think we'll have a new job title in the future being someone in the organization that can correctly set up AI driven processes that increases intra department productivity. Right now we're in the discovery phase with AI.
