Spoilers Surprisingly they didn't try to subvert expectations. Butcher kills Homelander, and Hughie kills Butcher. The show was always structured for that result and I'm surprised Kripke didn't try to pull some "Game of Thrones"-esque Arya kills the Night King. It was a very fast episode with no fat at all. I stopped watching after season 3 but wanted to see how bad the ending was. It was the most straightforward episode of the entire series.
It still got in it's usual Anti-Christian shit that Kripke loves. It wasn't a bad episode but it wasn't anything special. It was very meh, and I don't think you want your finale to be meh.
I didn't read the comics but I have heard about the ending. To it's credit the show did setup the ending from the beginning and it followed through. I kept waiting for the subversion, it never came
Pointlesshub did a good summary of the comic compared to the show and while we can be bored by the Trump analogies of the show, the comic was edge for edge sake like having a version of X-men leader that was a pdf...
The entire G men roster were paedophiles, and also victims since it was a ritual cycle of initiation with new kids joining the group.
Until Stillwell simply shot the shit out of all of them and dropped the last group of kids into the ocean while they were trapped in a shipping container.
.......the fuck....
It just sounds bad.
The show felt like that as well. And it would tell you it's doing it. Like using the slogan "girls get it done," and have a fight scene between the female heroes with a character saying, "wow girls really do get it done."
That season was bad and it was the last straw for me. I could stomach the cringe because i was watching it with frens but this was too much. Of course since then it only got worse and my standards have only gotten better.
