TP-Links can usually have DD-WRT or OpenWRT flashed onto them, if you are still using one that is out of warranty, you should generally do it as soon as the warranty expires.
Also isn't clear to me if it required remote management to be enabled, as the vulnerability was in the HTTP service. Definitely looks like it could be exploited from within the local network.
