I agree with a Twitter commenter that the UK version of the Community Relations Unit or whatever it's called here visited the family and massaged their story into something for public release. The knife crime angle is especially stupid and irrational given that it was a knife you can't ban unless you're "racist."
That's what his family seizes upon: banning knives even more strictly for Britons while refusing to acknowledge the real nature of the situation.
