Their women only seek wealth and status, and the average man over there is essentially a hopeless incel with no future. Even if you are rich and ambitious, there is no reason to have lots of kids because they're just a stumbling block to your own material success and hedonistic pursuits.
Basically, China is speedrunning what a Godless, materialistic-based society looks like when the only goal is self-centered materialism.
EDIT: Also, the one-child policy basically helped speed up their demise, as they now have a two-to-one ratio of male to female population.
