Ironically the GDR didn't brainwash their population into self-hatred and tried to erase Germany identity. They tried to replace it with a new German identity. The FRG did exactly the opposite.

So in the East you have Germans who haven't been completely brainwashed into hating themselves and know what an oppressive ideological dictatorship looks like and who haven't been flooded as much with shithole immigrants as the West.

But make no mistake you still have quite a few die-hard communists in the east. The direct successor of the GDR ruling party still has its strongholds there.
