I could literally be walking and see a young woman get raped and I'd just keep walking as if nothing ever happened.
In Canada, if I acted:
If at any time I used SLIGHTLY too much force (if I broke the perpetrator's nose, etc) I would get arrested, then sent to a sex dungeon, molested, and quite possibly raped by a cellmate. EVERY single person I've met and known has been sexually abused in prison one way or another. EVERY single one of them and I've worked with abused youth/young delinquents.
If the abusers are a minority, I'd get charged with a hate crime.
Even if I somehow managed the situation perfectly, I guarantee police would investigate "me" and "find" something.
"Oh you just happened to be there as she was getting raped? How convenient. We'll check your PC and cellphone to check if you are saying the truth. You have nothing to hide, right? By the way, we are seizing them and you never seeing your stuff again LOL"
Even if I just call for help, again, I'd be at best considered a suspect.
If I have to testify, I'd get jumped/killed by the friends of the perpetrators and no one would care
They would get released on bail almost immediately.
Even if convicted, they would serve a few months at best.
In all events, I'd be traumatized from the events.
In Canada, it would be added to my file. Every time my plate gets scanned or ID taken, it would show up to the cops. "Oh you are in trouble again, how convenient."
Of course the woman who was getting raped would 90% of the time return to her abuser (and quite possibly testify against me in court if I get charged with a hate crime. "Your honor, he screamed the N-word!")
So why bother? This woman would NEVER do the same for me if the roles were reversed. No one gives a shit about me. Why would I give a shit about other people?

Just, perhaps, keep in the back of your mind that option A will need to come sometime soon, or else it'll never come at all.
