My first thought was, thats what most of those religious institutes like orphanages and mental institutions were already doing. It didnt just happen to indians, it happened to anyone deemed not worthy of society. Prolly great places for the local politicians to make a visit to time to time......puke.
I learned in nova scotia they had literal poor houses.
Nova Scotia poor houses, operating heavily in the 18th and 19th centuries, commonly enforced free labor from residents—often called inmates—to maintain operations. Able-bodied residents were required to perform farm chores, woodcutting, and housework, while some were even "auctioned off" for their labor, as documented on The Poor Houses of Nova Scotia site and in local history accounts.
I met one person here who when I talked to about how people think what happened to the natives didnt happen and brought up orphanages, they had a terrible look on their face.
Their mom grew up from a small kid in a orphanage and was beaten and raped. Why do we pretend like this shit never happened.
