It sucks he didn't get 2+ years. The prosecution can appeal the sentence (whether or not they actually will, I don't know), and at the very least he is forced to register as a sex offender which has implications for him when he gets sent back to the US.

Unless the US law says if you've been convicted in another country you have to register as one in US.
