youve been here long enough to understand persia is one of the birthplaces of white civilization. they were conquered by islam but that doesnt make them pakis or afghanis by any extent.
Historically, Afghans and Persians were tightly related (and also heavily Greek influenced).
Tajikistan--all the other way on the FAR side of Afghanistan from Iran--speaks Tajik, that's easily mutually intelligible with Persian from Iran and Dari in Afghanistan.
In Iran, the Persian language is called "Farsi." Fars comes from Pars and is an Arab mispronunication--common Arab dialects have no "p" sound. So Farsi / Parsi is the language of the Persians.
The Persian peoples from Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia, for centuries ruled over much of India.
The predecessor state to modern Iran, the Qajar, took a shellacking from the British, the Russians, and the West more generally, but it came very close to controlling the historic Persianate heartland from the Caucus mountains through Iran, through parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan (the historic cities of Herat, Tabriz, etc), Tajikistan, and so on.
IMHO, it's a great historical tragedy that the Persian peoples fell under the sway of Islam.
Islam is the only reason the Persians are resisting the jew right now.
