It's bad on bad for Iran but in regards to both China and Russia, both sides won't care about their own public opinion, if Iran devastes the Gulf, Chinese leadership will focus elsewhere for resources, and Russia will try to leverage itself as a major energy provider....which is why Ukraine is focusing more drone strikes on Russian energy installations.
Pragmatism is...they should've just blocked off the strait and ONLY hit clear US and Israeli targets. Allowing strikes on energy and targets that can be interpreted as civilian weakened Iran's hand.
