I think his argument is there's a way to offset the costs and it's by reducing the taxes on gas prices.

That is why I said he doesn't understand the impact of the price of gas/oil on the economy. He thinks the only thing oil does is make privately owned cars move.

Even if you eliminate all taxes on gas at the pump and drive the cost down, the economy is still boned in ways we cannot recover from.
