Baal is one of the probable demons the Canaanites worshipped via sacrificing babies. God orders the Israelites to destroy the Canaanites and they mostly do, but unfortunately they are not completely destroyed and the Canaanite religions and sacrifices creep into society, until it hits a breaking point and God uses other foreign powers to destroy Israel (permanently) and Judah (temporarily) to make the people atone for the horrific sins. The remaining Hebrews then seemingly evolved a very strict legalistic view as the religious upper class grabbed the available religious power that the Romans, Persians and Greeks didn’t care about. Modern elites, having rejected Jesus and with their temple remaining in ruins and its space taken by the Dome of the Rock, have seemingly evolved a modern form of Canaanite worship, which is all still Satanic, just better hidden.
