He was killed because the cops assumed they were being shot at. It wasn't unreasonable for them to think that from everything i can see so far.
No reason to assume the shooter was the guy in custody. if I was up to me the shooter and the guy who took the gun would both get the death penalty and charge the family of the guy who got shot with the bill. Fuck everyone involved.
