Why are federal agents policing riots? Isnt that what the national guard is for? None of this is a good look and it is going to lead to a very bad place.
They're doing it de facto, because the regional police are refusing to support them or being ordered to withhold support from them.
In a sane world, the crazies would be stopped from interfering, or from putting themselves in harms' way, by the local constabulary--PD, Sheriff's, etc--and the Feds wouldn't have their butts hanging in the breeze to deal with the looky-loos and the kamikarenkazes and angry cat physique simps.
But this is not a sane world at the moment. Politicians are letting their cities go hot to try and blame it on exactly the only people even talking about making things better.
They're literally not policing riots. They're literally just lined up to stop the Communists from literally preventing them from making arrests and beating their skulls in. Eventually there's enough Communist insurrectionists for it to become a riot, at which point the local PD have been ordered to stand down.
I'm not a fan of this shoot, but I'm not sure your description is accurate. I don't think they were policing riots, they were probably doing more raids, and then dealing with people who were obstructing. The guy who got shot was in the middle of the road being a nuisance.
They handled it terribly in my opinion, but they weren't policing riots, they were removing agitators that were messing with them. Similar, but different.
