In real life the world of whites is dying because they don't work together and don't fight against common threats. And remember that Saruman was supposed to be good, but he got corrupted. So Gandalf was what Saruman was supposed to be; good. Like how the people that call themselves jews were at one point almost like a divide bloodline but then they essentially strayed from God and then a new covenant was made and now the rule is accept Christ. Similarly, but not exactly, Saruman was supposed to be the savior, he fucked up, and then came Gandalf who actually was the savior. And like Christ he came, died, and came back to life.
