The saving grace seems to be that this guy is just a publicity hound trying to go for quick, flashy and easy 'wins'. There are rumors that he negotiated with Venezuela for them to give up Maduro so that he could say that he OBLITERATED them.
Even taking down Venezuela would have been much more difficult than this, and taking down Iran way more so than this.
These morons will cheer for literally anything.
The most terrifying thing is that the "opposition party" isn't even opposing it. The two parties are always in agreement when it's something stupid and evil.
I got heat for saying that Trump's first term wasn't great. But I gave him credit for at least starting no new wars. And the first six months were pretty great. Actually doing stuff and being a bulldozer through the bureaucracy unlike the do nothing first term. Then came the triple punch of Epstein-Iran-Venezuela. Now he seems like the most psychotic warmonger around - but I'm hoping that it's just a pose.
Maduro either surrendered or was betrayed and handed over. I put that at above eighty percent, personally.
It wasn't great by any means. But it was pretty good, grading on a bell curve. Trump 1 was perhaps the best US president in decades, not that the bar is high. But yeah, he still wasn't great.
It's a mix. It's partly pose...but he's also clearly actually doing the warmongering, too.
Best case scenario, he's just chasing headlines and flashy action. Still bad, but less bad than him being blackmailed / owned by neocons. Or maybe him being a neocon himself who signals against them because they are so unpopular.
