Their obnoxious donation banners have a knack for evading ad blockers too. Imagine if they put that kind of effort into making something people want to donate to.

Evading an ad blocker with an in-house ad is trivial. Ad blockers work off of blacklists of known bad sites or files, so unless someone specifically adds Wikipedia's banner to the blacklist it will be shown.
