The culture is fine, where I work literally everyone says "Merry Christmas" (including the customers), I haven't heard a single "Happy Holidays" this year. It's not the culture it's the people who control the major companies and politicians.
Since you brought up NYC specifically I assume you live there, be the change you want to see. Say "Merry Christmas" to every person you come across, but probably keep a gun on you, otherwise Muslims are liable to start stabbing you
Yes! I’ve noticed that too… like in Animal Crossing, it’s called “Toy Day” in western countries but “Christmas” in the original Japan version

It does depend on the area… in NYC you rarely if ever hear Merry Christmas, other than tourists
