Cartels are doing night plantings amongst private farms' crops and in marginal areas, illegal grow ops hidden in the middle of national parks, and are even buying out entire towns worth of farms, putting down illegal wells, and dumping a trafficked beaner or chink and a shit ton of illegal ag chemicals on it to pump out huge quantities of gmo pot. The vast majority of stuff on the market comes from those sorts of operations. Unless you're growing it in your own basement, you're likely consuming some pretty toxic industrial shit.

Meanwhile, legal pot operations are faced with mountains of red tape and bureaucratic oversite, have to abide by standard ag water and chemical limitations, pay tons of taxes, and generally don't make shit for money. But, they're venture capital's new baby, so they're gonna get everything they can hope for, including mountains of positive press.
