This is unironically what I used to think when I was a neocon. "If we make it easier to come in legally, then they'll be documented when they're in the country!" And eventually they'll be just like the rest of us!
Kind of like the decriminalizing drugs argument.
"If we make all addictive drugs legal, somehow all the homeless druggies will just disappear!"
