Soccer nerd here. I can clarify. The “pride match” designation isn’t an official designation by FIFA. It’s a designation by the Seattle World Cup organizing committee, which (obviously) is helping with staging the games in Seattle. For practical purposes, this means FIFA won’t make the players wear armbands or assless chaps or anything. There will probably just be ancillary pride events outside the stadium and shit like that, and as a result, the stands will probably see more than their fair share of mentally ill blue-haired trannies, which will be hilarious, because they’ll be alongside a bunch of Persians and Egyptians.

Another fun point to note is that this designation was issued in advance for the game on that specific date in Seattle. The specific matchups that take place in a given city on a given date are determined by semi-random draw, so really this is a gift from the irony gods.
