They're basically all ridiculous, but the others are either "popular with the kids" (Fortnite, Nerf, Spongebob)
Nerf and Spongebob were "popular with the kids" 25 years ago, now they're brands that just sort of coast along based on past brand recognition, and Monty Python fits right in there.
But Monty Python? What are you going to summon? A dead parrot? The Minister of Silly Walks?
Yeah, why not? People like shitposts.
The "young, modern audience" that they're looking for has probably never even heard of them, and the old timers (if Hasbro even wants them) are not going to be sucked into a new, expensive hobby because you can get a Knights of Ni card or whatever. Just cringe and embarassing.
Monty Python is pretty well known still, and the old timers are the ones who are already into MTG, they don't need to be "sucked into a new expensive hobby" because they're already there and will continue looking to buy, and the younger demographics that missed the hayday of MTG have a shitton of barriers to entry that won't be overcome by some cringe licencing deals.

Right, that's why I put it in quotes. This logic would make sense to boomer execs. Though I have seen kids playing with Nerf products in the last few years.
Monty Python fits right in there.
Monty Python's Flying Circus first aired 56 years ago. You might as well do I Dream of Jeannie or Gilligan's Island cards. Hell, I thought of mentioning ALF, but that show debuted 17 years after Flying Circus, in 1986.
Yeah, why not? People like shitposts.
But that's all it is, which makes the whole thing extra ridiculous, which is my original point. At least the others have some kind of tenuous logic if you squint at them.

With old timers? Maybe. With Gen Z and younger? I'm not so sure.

Fair point, but that's what the suits are hoping for. Otherwise, why are they trying Fortnite or Stranger Things at all? Those certainly aren't targeting old timers.
