Tate isn't innocent of most things leveled at him, and I find his predatory camgirl empire that made him rich absolutely despicable and worthy of being hung even if it was fully legal.

But he was a big fish in a small pond, with only a marginal amount of reach outside the dregs of society. Until they blew him up into this boogeyman, and suddenly his reach was able to ensnare countless more simply because they never shut up about how dangerous and evil he was day after day. They made a monster just so they could have something to rally against.

Which is exactly what all this reeks of. Taking two people with almost no influence outside people who already believe everything they say, and then make them a martyr.
