It's the difference between worrying about a feral animal running around vs. worrying about a feral animal running around while also being upset at their latest mauling. Either way I'm unhappy, but at least knowing she wanted this means I can be slightly less unhappy. The total happiness in the world increased. So, whatever.

I don't think anyone is excusing the behavior, they're just indifferent about the victim.
