I think it's just more Lebensraum, because ancient Israel definitely didn't include half of Egypt. Maybe some Abrahamic ideas do include part of Iraq. Nor does it seem to me that overextending yourself that much would improve your security situation.

I never understood the overextension issue either. Even if you took every Israeli and put them into Fat Israel you’d still end up with the population density of Alaska.
