Yes and no. They could have talked about nothing but the weather and sports, and the reaction would have been the same. "Being over the target" doesn't even enter into it here. They're outraged Tucker talked to Fuentes, about anything.
Also, ironically, I think part of the reason they're freaking is that Fuentes is moderating his positions, actually. They would have liked it more if he'd gone on and thrown up a Nazi salute. Instead he agree with Tucker that collective guilt was bad and you can't blame all people for the sins of some. It disproved the idea that Tucker is some rabid extremist, and it even calls into question their portrayal of Fuentes too.
Regardless, the fact that they can't just insta cancel anyone they want to like before has them terrified.
And it's glorious. Dangerous, too, though, as they're clearly trying to claw back our free speech and reinstitute their chosen gatekeepers. They can't stand letting us speak, and they're doing everything they can to stop us.
