I'm on various Mechwarrior 5 discord servers, mostly mod related. It is actually helpful to be there, as I can get help on how to do things in the modmaking field. I also am a beta tester for the developer for Mechwarrior 5, Mercs and Clans both. The place has a strict no politics rule which is enforced, so it is tolerable. I am fully aware of all the warts related to Discord, but in this case, the utility outweighs the negatives.
If you're happy I'm happy for you. I do not use sites full of glowies trying to entrap people.
It annoys me greatly that Discord is where the audience for this stuff is, and that Nexus is the primary vehicle for mods. I'm normally the guy who says not to do this, use the services of our enemies, but...
SO FAR it has been drama free. If discord demands photo ID, or some other craziness, I won't be complying, but that hasn't happened yet.

Telegram taught me the lesson, and I only needed to learn it once. The backend, and updates are where the real privacy violations are.
