I suspect that on some level configuring and testing the hardware / software removes some of the illusion. LLMs are not people, they just pretend passably well. They don't lie, but they don't have feelings either.
I don't want to be too dogmatic, but I think you have to either be dumb or have some kind of mental disorder to develop a relationship with an LLM. They don't pass very well.
