That's definitely the most charitable interpretation but I feel like someone who's desperate to actually get help will not make pedophilia his identity by running around with the MAP flag.
The 'minor attracted people' crowd isn't actually pushing pedophiles to seek help. They want pedophilia to be accepted as a valid sexual orientation. But if you're not talking about that crowd I honestly haven't noticed anyone telling pedophiles to publicly out themselves to seek help.
The problem is that a huge segment of our population thinks those who are saying such things are the only ones trying to help them. Because those people are the only ones actually willing to get directly involved in their lives, instead of just shouting at them from behind screens or a bully pulpit.
I agree with you that they (non offenders) shouldn't be vilified but given help as that not only helps them but also helps society to find out what's actually causing it and perhaps even preventing entirely.
