Just so everyone is on the same page on the last point, two former high-level DoD officials advised a leader of a FOREIGN COUNTRY with a plan for the US to invade ANOTHER country. Then one of those people became a DoD official again, and the US promptly invaded that country a couple years later.
We were essentially sold two lies on Iraq: the first from the right, that WMDs required invasion, and the second from the left, that the war was for oil.
