Even if they weren't, that doesn't change the fact that leftists consider anyone not a leftist to be a nazi. And they've made it very clear what they want done to accused nazis. When your enemy says he wants to kill you, believe him, even if you think he misclassified you.
Anyone who doubts this needs to look up some of the videos leftists posted of themselves celebrating the Charle Kirk murder.
