I should point out that Batman's father here is the village chief, and in order to climb the social ladder in Aztec society, it was necessary to sacrifice slaves and children, either by ripping out their hearts while they were still alive, by burning them alive, or by drowning them.
In Aztec culture, children were offered as sacrifices to Tlaloc, the god of rain.
It was believed that their cries fed the clouds and brought abundant harvests.
The indigenous people mistreated by the Aztecs were so relieved that the conquistadors came to kill the Aztecs that they joined them with joy and some of them even gave their DAUGHTERS in marriage to the Spaniards.
Yup! In the climatic battle that turned the tide & eventually destroyed the Aztecs? The Spanish were on the run! Vastly outnumbered, low on supplies and ammo they were racing to get back to their boats & flee. They sent diplomats ahead to contact the various tribes between themselves and their ships & ended up recruiting them all! (They were probably begging for food & right of passage, but hit the jackpot!)
They dragged all the cannon off their ships & set up in a terrain that perfectly suited their army. The friendly tribes held the 2 flanks. When the Aztecs attacked they came in waves. The Spanish gunned them down and the few that got close were met with armoured men swinging halberds. The fleeing survivors disrupted the next wave every time until the whole army broke ranks & tried to flee. Then the tribes attacked them, decades & centuries of abuse were avenged.
