It's the mentality of the women and weak men that nobody should be left behind dying, while the reality is that resources are finite, someone will have to die which is why we live striving to be better than the rest, to pass the natural selection.

Instead what we have today is a dysgenic society where the unfit have an advantage surviving at the expenses of the children of the responsible people, because a family could have chosen to have 1 more child if they had more money.
