Stupid post, but you know how in Raiders of the Lost Ark, you see his house and it's a typical, even slightly small house. Not exactly living the high life.
You'd gotta think he'd be pretty ticked off when he finds out all the other archeologists pretty much just get a permit, and have a relaxing cup of tea in between some digging where they uncover artifacts, meanwhile he's making the same amount of money, but nearly dying about a dozen times each excursion.
I'd be like "I should be living in a mansion right now....not one of these other archeologists have to be so good with a whip that they can whip the gun out of a guys hand right before he shoots you, or in good enough shape to run away from a giant 2 ton boulder....this is some bullcrap".
One thing I've noticed with a LOT of TV and movie protagonists is that they aren't allowed to financially prosper or develop. They'll always live in the same shitty houses, driving the same shitty cars for as long as the show or franchise goes on for.
Gets a nice house? Blown up or set on fire as part of the plot (Lethal Weapon springs to mind, even Murtaugh's boat wasn't safe).
Gets a nice car? Crashed or pushed into a river by the end of the episode. Or like in BCS, he somehow gets tired of driving a Mercedes and goes back to his Suzuki Esteem that won't start half the time.
Gets a lot of money? Stolen or set on fire or part of a police sting where it turns out it's counterfeit and actually worthless.
I can't name a single show or film series where the protag and/or his family start dirt poor (or average) and become rich fags living in mansions and driving fancy cars (apart from Fast & Furious, funnily enough). It just doesn't ever happen.
That's an interesting point, and one I hadn't thought of.
Another exception is Back to the Future. The first film, because of changes in the past, the family becomes more successful. Not living in the Hamptons successful, but going from lower middle class struggling to moderately middle class where they can afford the car Marty really wanted, the house is furnished nicely, the dad is in a job he enjoys and pays better/ no one is his boss (except maybe book publishers he has to negotiate with).
It's hard to think of much or any others, that's a good point.
Oh one other, The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. The sequel Mummy Returns sucked, but we see that they kept the wealth they got from the first movie and are now living in a mansion.
Looking at the wiki for the Mummy, apparently in the third film they had moved out, with Brendan Fraser's character leaving it to his parents to enjoy their retirement. I only watched the first 2 minutes or so of that movie before realizing it was garbage and turned it off, so I've never really counted it.
Mummy Returns isn't very good, but it still felt a little more in line with the first one. The third one felt really off right from the get go.
