I was in GATE in a hyper-lefty area. For us, it was just the smart kid class. Hard to know if anything unusual happened because through 12th grade every teacher I had was either a hardline democrat or a communist.
You said "communist" twice.
This grew more an more obvious even in the early 90s. By the time fourth grade hit, it was clear we weren't there to learn but obey, and it was always the old women teachers pushing this in the worst ways possible
