Hematuria in women has many benign explanations that don't necessarily require any workup in the absence of other confounding symptoms or factors (back/abdo pain, pain with urination, recent trauma, STI history, etc).
Hematuria in men is a little different just because of plumbing. Blood in a dude's urine similarly should have a workup based on age, symptoms, risk factors, most likely diagnosis.
In young guys, it's most likely due to STIs or blunt kidney trauma.
In older guys, you are more worried about bladder & kidney cancer.
