I watched Formula 1 in the 1990s. You don't have to hypothesize.

Basically, in the early '90s, there was this new kid on the block by the name of Michael Schumacher. Young. German. Tremendous chin.

And insanely quick. We're talking so quick that one of the top team owners (Flavio Briatore) bought out his contract after one race (and not even that, his car blew a clutch on the first lap of that race) to have him race for his team, alongside a 3-time champion as his team-mate. That sort of thing never happens in motor racing. Those of us who could see the light knew this guy was going to be big from day 1.

His talent is immediately obvious, and by 1994, he's got a car that can challenge for the title. He wins the first two races and the first conspiracies start to surface, some of which were spread by a legendary who'd sadly die at the next race (Ayrton Senna, you might have heard of him).

As the season continues and Schumacher keeps winning, things get weirder. He gets banned from several races due to violating a formation lap procedure (despite other drivers doing the same and going unpunished). He gets disqualified from one race due to "excessive plank wear". And the weirdest of all, the 1994 Japanese Grand Prix (google it) - he lost a victory despite coming across the finish line first, because of an "aggregate time" rule, a rule that hadn't been used in over 20 years and would never be used again, which applied to races that had been stopped due to rain in the days before safety/pace cars so the leader didn't have all his hard work undone. That race in question had a pace car, and should not have had that rule applied.

As a result, Damon Hill (the deceased Senna's team-mate and main rival) is in contention for the title by the final race when had the ruling body been fair, he'd have been so far behind it wouldn't have been funny. Late in the final race, Schumacher loses control of his car and Hill bumps him off the track, causing the car to be damaged. Every international broadcast says roughly the same thing - a racing incident caused by an over-eager driver.

Not the British broadcast.

The British broadcast (Damon Hill was British, for the record) immediately puts the blame on Schumacher and accuses him of trying to knock Hill out of the race. To this day, Hill insists he's the rightful 1994 champion, and it's laughable. But the Lügenpresse accusations of Schumacher being a dirty cheating driver stick, eventually causing him to be disqualified in 1997 after a similar occurrence happened with the Canadian Jacques Villeneuve.

Schumacher is champion in 1994 and dominates the following season. He switches to Ferrari and goes 4 years without a title, but everyone knows he's the best driver on the grid, and often wins more races than anyone else in a season. He isn't just faster than everyone else, he's on another level entirely. Like MJ versus your average playground negro. But either due to bad luck or disqualifications, he never takes home the gold.

He had a really bad accident in 1999 that broke both his legs (the British crowd cheered like fucking vultures) and many thought he'd never race again, let alone in 1999. He came back with two races left and immediately lead most of the first, allowing his team-mate through at the last minute in the name of the championship. As a result, everyone is put on notice, and they know he is going to be a massive threat for the title in 2000.

And he does. He finally wins his third championship after a 5 year gap. Then his fourth. Then his fifth. All the way until he wins his seventh title with no rival in sight. No-one can touch him or his Ferrari.

So the sport's governing body change the rules SPECIFICALLY to incovenience Schumacher and his Ferrari team, and they do it TWICE in three years. The first try failed; the second try left him with only a single win to his name that year.

Eventually, in 2006 he's forced out of the sport due to inter-team politics, and he retires with 7 titles and 91 wins. But he would have won a hell of a lot more if the governing body hadn't interfered and treated him the same as everyone else. By my calculations, he could have had as many as 11 titles in the 16 seasons he contested.

The season after, along comes some nigger called Lewis Hamilton. Once he switches to a team with a way faster car than everyone else, he soon beats Schumacher's win count and equals his titles. And not once do the governing body do anything to stop it. Because he's a nigger and the optics of that are only good for F1 in the long run. On an even playing field, Hamilton would be eaten alive by prime Schumacher. There is no-one in this sport that has come close to him since. Not even his spiritual successor Max Verstappen who the governing body and British press alike are doing the same thing they did to Schumacher in the '90s and '00s.
