When we are in fear or worry, the frontal cortex, one of the most advanced parts of the brain, is "de-activated". The brain does this to save energy and direct it to basic survival functions only. Hence, in this agitated state, we function and think just like animals fighting for survival. In this state of awareness, we view the world as dangerous and highly competitive.
Our leaders know this, and make no mistake, they certainly use it to their advantage, take no further look than our current administration.
Fear-based appeals hit people on a primitive level, Wilson said. “When people are under stress, the hind brain takes over,” he said.
