How can you not figure this out? People are (and should be) responsible for their choices; as a general rule children are not responsible for making those choices. That's why people here don't pearl clutch and cry, "But what about the children?" every time someone with kids proves to be a dumbass.

Saying these people are not capable of changing or controlling themselves is a bigotry of low expectations. They are capable. They may need some help to fight their addictions, but needing a little counseling for addiction doesn't mean they cannot do it.
