Is it wrong that I feel awful for people like this?

In practical terms, yeah probably, but understandable too.

Realistically, due to their other obvious misfortunes their life was never going to be great, gender fuckery notwithstanding. In relative terms of lost potential this case is in a lot of respects much less tragic than a normal, healthy individual coerced into transgenderism by social circumstance, even if their life prospects on an absolute level are even worse than your average troon.

You can't feel awful for everyone all the time, it's just not healthy, useful or even really possible. It's better to save it for what really matters and make a conscious effort at emotional control to remain dispassionate about randos you learn about online.
