Mass Effect was carried by its romances and bromances. If you removed Tali and Garrus from the game, it would be a meh shooter with a few good antagonists and meandering plot that fails to stick most of its landings. Same with DA:O and Morrigan.
People will claim otherwise and can legitimately name a lot of things they like about the game, but it was those little factors that turned them from decent games into this "high standard" that Bioware fell from.
And I say that actually enjoying the ME trilogy, and Dragon Age 2 against all reasonability.
