Spending more tax dollars on education, defense, etc, does not result in more of it, or of higher quality. Imagine if America (and Britain) figured out colonialism and empire building, instead of funneling resources to the military-banker industrial complex. That opportunity is long gone, so let's do actual reform of our armed forces and defense industry. With Service Guarantees Citizenship, we'd have administrators disciplined enough to provide thorough accountability of defense budgets.
Except you can't produce education the same way you can produce arms or weapons. One's an intangible and the other isn't. It won't all be spent on weaponry but at the very least it's not a good comparison
Defense encompasses much more than armaments. Much of our arsenal isn't cost-effective, and many of our activities are counterproductive. Sometimes its blowback, but often times its an erosion of our liberties. I'm not opposed to a strong war ready military, but it needs surgically precise reform. It's not on a sustainable, nimble trajectory. Note how there was chaff that had to be cleared at the onset of WW2.
