Look at the map. The whole point of the other four regions that Russia has taken is to protect and re-connect Crimea. Crimea is the whole reason for this war, ultimately, just as it has been for hundreds of years.
As for the whole drone warfare in the sea -- eh, same thing as always during war. New technology temporarily changes the balance which then shifts again a few years later. It's already shifting.
Submarines and airplanes and magnetic mines did not make naval bases irrelevant. They made large dreadnoughts irrelevant.
