I'm watching the new season of that Wind Breaker show, it's pretty mediocre but I like fighting anime/manga and school shit so it's ok.
In one of the fights the pink haired metrosexual guy tells the guy he's fighting that being graceful and feminine aren't synonymous anymore or something like that. Pretty minor, but also pretty gay.
But I remembered that one of the school's team captains or whatever looked like a tranny and decided to look it up. And yeah he is. I don't know if they used the word tranny, the wiki says the author says he's a man. But it's kind of jarring to me to see this shit in a mainstream shounen show. I know Japan has always had some weird sexual shit, but I'm curious how common this has become now. I remember a couple times where gays or cross dressers were played for laughs, but I don't remember much of it being normalized, but I don't watch or read as much as anime/manga as I used to.
Lots of degenerate shit going on, but people either keep it in the closet or admit they are part of a weird alternative lifestyle. Even most gay men will tell you being a gay man isn't normal and they don't need it to be. There are places those people go to meet other likeminded freaks (like fur festivals here) but out in "mainstream" life if you act like a rainbow person you won't be treated seriously - unless you work at a western company or hip modern company full of westaboos like Atlus. I do think the forced gay marriage legalization is chipping away at their traditionalism though, just like it did in America.
As long as it's still looked at as weird and outside the mainstream that's good. As soon as it becomes normalized it's all downhill
