Yup. Next do it for "Indian Reservations" especially in Canada.
In ~1970 a future PM was tasked with resolving outstanding disputes with Native Tribes. All of them. Effectively ending the "Indian Act" and would dismantle the "Department of Indian Affairs" too. For 6+ months he bashed his head against the brick wall of entrenched bureaucrats and corruption. He finally gave up when he asked the head of the "Council Of Chiefs" (I paraphrase of course)
"WHY don't you want payment for the past harms? Why won't you help your people today?"
"Because we want payment for future harm. We don't know how much suffering there will be!"
In other words: let the people suffer, deliberately, for 50+ more years while milking (bleeding!) the system for all it's worth. 😡
In Canada, the Natives consider the "Treaties" to be sacred, untouchable. But they also welcome changes that benefit themselves! Rip them all up, no more multiple-tiers of citizens.
See, there's the problem. He should have asked for the headS of the council of chiefs. Then make pucks out of 'em and distribute it to ice hockey teams.
He was a Liberal back when Liberals still had some values. He said (decades later) he honestly believed the Chiefs wanted to help their own people, but they wanted the opposite. Suffering and endless graft.
So he gave up. Essentially nothing has changed since then, regardless of "changes" in governments.
